QUERY: I am researching my family genealogy for my granddaughters who have a desire to join the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

We have a patriot who has been recognized by the DAR and need to establish the connection from him (Thomas Greir, Grear, Greer) through his children and grandchildren. I have documentation for all members save his immediate family that were from Guilford County.

I am hoping that your society may offer some assistance in my quest. The information I am seeking is anything (marriage bonds, death notices, etc.) that would pertain to:

George Hamilton born 1783 in Guilford, died 30 December 1857, Wilson County, TN. His wife, Rebecca Grier (Grear, Greer) born 8 November 1783 in Guilford, died 30 June 1868 in Wilson County, TN. Their son James Grier Hamilton born 16 October 1812, died 24 August 1895 in Rutherford County, TN.

Any information can be sent to me as follows:

QUERY: I am seeking information on Emma Catherine Murray, her parents, and her ancestors. She married my grandfather, John William Murray, on February 14, 1888. They lived in Greensboro--in 1910 John and Emma lived at 606 Fifth Ave and in 1920 they resided at 418 Summit Ave. John and Emma had five sons: Walter Lea (b. 1890), Forrest Harold (b. 1894), Eli Malcolm (b. 1896), Morton McNeil (b. 1899), and John William, Jr. (b. 1904) (my father). I believe her maiden name was Harris. I think she was born around 1866-1870, and her parents may have been Charles and Elizabeth Harris who lived in Melville, NC in 1880.

QUERY: I am looking for information on James Henry Blaylock, he was born November 19, 1823, probably what is known as Appomattox County, Virginia. He lived in Guilford, Randolph, and Davidson Counties in North Carolina. His father brought him to North Carolina about 1833. He is son to Martin Blaylock (1793-1871) who I am looking for information on as well. Martin Blaylock was born October 18, 1793 in Halifax County, Virginia.

His first wife died Mary Brittian in child birth. Wizzy Ann is his second wife, born August 27, 1827 and they had 7 children. James Adolphus Blaylock born August 24, 1853, their second child is my next descendant as well. James Henry Blaylock died October 5, 1893 and lies in Hopewell church yard in Randolph County, North Carolina.

Martin, the father and James Henry, the son both were in the Revolutionary War. I am in the DAR and need proof of all this with cover sheet.

Martin Blaylock bought some land on November 3, 1830 from Henry Hampton. The said land totaled 276 acres in Iredell County, NC. This deed was recorded on page 272, Book P, of Records in the Office of the Register of Deeds of Iredell County, in Statesville, North Carolina, under the date of June 30, 1831. Could someone find me a copy of this?

Would anyone know whether the State Archives of North Carolina or another library have a copy of the famous “Blaylock Family Bible”? It has all the dates of the family and history. It was published by the American Bible Society, New York.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Perhaps you are in addition looking for the father of Martin Blaylock who is also grandfather of James Henry Blaylock? Based on the birthdates provided, both Martin Blaylock (1793-1871) and James Henry Blaylock (1823-1893) would have been born after the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) had ended.
